Labrum

The labrum, or labral cartilage, is a ring of fibrous cartilage found in the shoulder and hip joints. It forms a "cup" that helps stabilize the joint and keep the bones of the joint in place.

The labrum can be damaged by overuse, a fall, an accident, or another injury to the joint. A damaged labrum usually is treated with rest, physical therapy, and medicines to reduce pain and swelling. But more serious damage may require surgery.
