What is Virtual Prenatal Care and am I eligible?

Virtual prenatal care is a convenient way to get pregnancy care from the comfort of your home or work.  Using your smartphone, computer or tablet’s camera and microphone, you will sign in to a private, secure and HIPAA compliant videoconference with your provider to have your prenatal checkup appointments. You will still have scheduled in-person visits with your provider.

This program is best suited for low-risk pregnancies, which means that not all women are healthy enough for the Virtual Prenatal Care program.

What equipment do I need at home?

For your virtual prenatal visits you will need the following equipment:

• A bathroom scale
• A blood pressure monitor
• A fetal doppler monitor (Birmingham OBGYN offers dopplers for rent or you can purchase one.  Our supplier is www.babydoppler.com)
• A smartphone, computer or tablet with a video camera and microphone.  If you use a smartphone or tablet, downloading the Chiron Health app is the preferred method.
• An Internet connection.  A strong Wi-Fi connection is preferred.

This equipment will let you take measurements before and during your virtual prenatal visits.
