Introducing Dr. Banahan
Birmingham OBGYN is proud to introduce our newest physician, Dr.Banahan. She will be starting with us on Sept. 3rd.
Dr. Banahan is a cum laude graduate of The University of Richmond. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Banahan is married and enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and golden retriever.

Dr. Ron Orso has been selected by the University of Alabama Medical Alumni Association (MAA) as the recipient of the 2015 “Hettie Butler Terry Community Service Award.” The “Hettie Butler Terry Community Service Award” is awarded for “outstanding commitment to community service.” It is awarded to those who have strongly contributed to the advancement of their community through volunteer efforts, and philanthropic endeavors.

Dr.Heath Receives Board Certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery
We would like to extend our congratulations to Dr. Christy Heath who is now board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr.Heath received her certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) as recognized by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology dedicated to helping the many women who suffer from urogynecological conditions including incontinence and pelvic prolapse. This subspecialty combines elements of gynecology, urology and pelvic reconstructive surgery to manage and treat pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Heath specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pelvic floor disorders including: urinary incontinence, pelvic prolapse, overactive bladder, and pelvic floor dysfunction as well as routine gynecological conditions. Dr. Heath performs minimally invasive gynecological surgery which provides faster recovery, smaller incisions and shorter hospital stays. We are so proud of her accomplishment! Staying Comfortable In The Summer Heat During Pregnancy
It’s summer, it’s hot and you’re pregnant. Is the high number on the thermostat causing you more discomfort?
Try these five tips for staying comfortable in the summer heat during pregnancy:
1. Plan errands and walks in the morning
Take care of outdoor tasks in the morning when it’s a bit cooler. Also if temperatures are expected to exceed 90, limit activity on those days including in the morning.
2. Reduce your sodium intake
Sodium is important during pregnancy because it contains iodide. However, reducing sodium intake will help reduce swelling.
